Expressing gratitude

How long has it been since I last blogged? Holy crap.

Anyway, my final year has started officially since last week. And it's going to be such a chaotic year ahead - with academics, dissertation, part-time job and council stuff to juggle. Well, I guess it serves as a good opportunity to train my time management skills and at the same time learn to spend my time on useful and meaningful stuff instead of just being a couch potato (which I am super guilty of).

I still vividly remember when we were asked to submit our application for Exco positions and I went around asking my friends if I should really do it. Would I be able to commit my time? Would I be able to handle my responsibility well enough? Would I click well with my team mates? A lot of questions and doubts went through my mind and I was so unsure of my decision. However, one of my friends told me "since you've joined from the start and made a long way here, why not continue with it?" So I plucked up my courage and went for the interview.

The interview was a tad nerve-wrecking, me against a panel of 6 interviewers, having to answer their questions calmly and confidently with 6 pairs of eyes looking right at me. I answered their questions with 101% transparency and told them my honest feelings of why I hesitated on signing up as an Exco, as well as whom I think would be a best fit for the other positions. I would like to think they saw my honesty as a valuable trait (LOL).

Anyway, I joined the Exco team not knowing what to expect and not knowing what kind of people I would be working with. The first few meetings were a testament of boundaries - what kind of jokes were appropriate, what kind of working styles we all had, what kind of personalities we would be working with. However, I'm really surprised that we jumped on board rather quickly and my team was one filled with responsible and action-bound people.

The first task on our hand was the upcoming Freshman Orientation Camp and we proposed to do a 2D1N camp which will be the first ever overnight camp in UOB's history. There were a lot of hiccups in between, some arguments and disagreements with each other, loads and loads of unforeseen obstacles we had to overcome, but we made our dream come true.

The camp wasn't perfect, it rained on the first day, delaying our plans and affected the games. People got injured, people got restless, people got tired and people wanted to go home. But the Excos held our spirits up high and tackled the problems with positivity and optimism. We were 6 girls running around crazily, setting up locations, cleaning up after games, making sure everything on the program ran smoothly.

But all in all, we are super thankful to each and everyone of you who contributed to the camp. The OGLs for taking time out of their holiday, being a responsible individual and leading their orientation groups, hyping them up and being the middle men between the freshies and Excos. The GMs, for ensuring each game was facilitated smoothly and always being at their positions on time. The freshies, for bearing with our activities despite the weariness, for enduring till the last minute and being patient with us whenever a problem arose. Thank you all of you.

And till today, most of the orientation groups are still in contact and even planning gatherings and staycations. And really, it's just all these little little things that made our efforts worthwhile, these little little things that assured me joining the Excos team was a decision well-made, that serving the student body would give me such a huge sense of accomplishment and warmth.

Thank you UOB Student Council for being like a second home, a second family, somewhere where I feel I truly belong. Thank you :)
